Traditional Puttanesca ‘HOT’ Tomato Sauce 16oz


The Pasta Maker has developed our Puttanesca sauce using San Marzano tomatoes (D.O.P.), grown in San Marzano, Italy. The meaning of D.O.P. is ‘Denominazione d’ Origine Protetta‘ – ‘Protected Designation of Origin’. The certification is complex for growers to achieve but it protects them and the consumer to guarantee that you experience the genuine product.

San Marzano tomatoes have a unique flavor that makes them perfect for great tomato sauces like the traditional Italian Puttanesca. Puttanesca sauce is a hot tomato sauce and ours is made from scratch. The Pasta Maker has combined tomatoes with fresh herbs and hot peppers from The Farm, black olives and extra virgin olive oil from our own groves in Vallecorsa, Italy and aromatic capers exclusively from the tiny Italian island of Pantelleria. We believe that our sauce is comparable to any you will enjoy in homes all over Italy.

The traditional way to serve Puttanesca Sauce is over spaghetti. Top that with freshly grated Parmesan cheese and you have an unforgettable meal. Below is a less traditional recipe for you to enjoy.

Tortelloni Puttanesca Soup

Serves 2 - 4

  • 1 jar Traditional Italian Puttanesca Sauce
  • 2 pints natural, bottled spring water
  • 1 pack Pasta Nostra 3-Cheese tortelloni, frozen
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 large clove garlic, crushed and finely chopped
  • 1 level teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 level teaspoon salt
  1. In a saucepan over a low to medium heat, add the butter, oil and garlic. Lightly saute for up to a minute being careful not to brown the garlic – just 'sweat' it.

  2. Add the Puttanesca Sauce and water then bring it all to a boil.

  3. Add the tortelloni and stir. Bring everything back to a boil and cook the pasta for 4 – 6 minutes.

  4. Serve with a crunchy, crusty bread and freshly grated Parmesan cheese.
