Gigli Pasta for Salad “Basil”


The Pasta Maker created Basil Gigli to celebrate some of the wonderful ingredients being grown at The Farm and of course, Italy. Everything at The Farm is grown using organic methods and as with homegrown produce, has more flavor when compared to that which is commercially grown. The Pasta Makers attempts to add as much fresh basil to the dough as it will take to produce an intensely colored and aromatic pasta.

Our Basil Gigli Pasta For Salad is made using only fresh basil leaves. These are pureed then added to semolina durum wheat flour and mixed to create the dough.

Once the dough is ready, it is extruded through a bronze die which gives each gigli a lightly rough surface. This ensures that the maximum amount of sauce clings to the pasta for an enhanced pasta eating experience.

All of our pasta dough is handmade in small batches and every step of production is overseen by The Pasta Maker to ensure the best quality every time.

Add basil gigli to any combination of salad you can think of, roasted vegetables or simply combine with your favorite salad dressing. It also works well in hot dishes including baked pasta recipes.


How to prepare Pasta Nostra Gigli for baked pasta recipe

  1. Prepare a large mixing bowl of iced water and set aside.

  2. Bring some lightly salted water to a rapid boil and cook the gigli for 2 minutes.

  3. Drain the pasta and pour it into the iced water to cool and stop the pasta cooking further.

  4. Drain the pasta again and toss in olive oil, which will ensure the pasta stays separated.

  5. Once your baked pasta dish is ready for the oven, you will need to cover it tightly with aluminum foil. Once your dish is cooked, uncover and leave in the oven for a further 5 minutes, add your cheese toppings at this stage.

  6. Remove from the oven and allow to stand for 5 minutes before serving.
